Amazing Astronomy Picture of the Day
A pretty amazing astronomy picture of the day from NASA. At first glance, you’ll wonder what this has to do with Astronomy, but if you look closely at the middle of the picture, you’ll notice the Comet McNaught.

The narrator is rather grating, so I’d hit mute if I were you, but the video itself is rather fascinating.
Classic.
I heard about this when it happened 12 years ago (the winner of this game went on to beat my alma mater, Austin Westlake, in the championship), but this is the first time I’ve seen the video. Ridiculous.
It’s been a few years since I first saw this image and I still find it hard to accept. At first glance it doesn’t look like anything out of the ordinary. But would you believe that the squares marked A and B are the same shade of gray? It’s true. No, really. Print the picture, cut out squares, and then compare them. So how much do you trust your eyes?
Very, very cool, but not necessarily as difficult to create as you’d think. The next video demonstrates software that allows you to do sampled video composition in real time.
